The Writer's Co-op is a student-led organization based in Omaha, NE that supports young writing and community outreach. We are part of the student body of Westside High School, and the organization helps young writers share their writing with other club members and the community through this website and our student publication, Gilded Quill Verbatim. Editors of the organization also help to edit prospective writing. Writer's Co-op meets every Wednesday at 3:00 at the Bookworm, a book store in Countryside Village, directly across from Westside High School.

Our story begins with an inquisitive student who asked her eighth grade teacher if she would approve of a writer's club. The club was small and not very serious. However, it gave the young students a chance to show off what they could do.

A year later, these young writers became freshmen. One of the seniors, the legendary Neal, started the Freshman Writer's Club. This was also not very serious, but the students wrote; and they learned from each other about how their work could be improved. This generation of the club was not school sponsored, but held at a member's house. This prompted the students to be not held back by what was deemed 'appropriate' by teachers. Their minds began to expand.

The next year, the club publicized themselves under the new name, "Writer's Co-op." This second-generation club expanded to include people other than the original freshmen, and the club experienced monumental success. Though the club expanded, membership was scarce at best. The club took a bold initiative, it started a website and published the first issue of Verbatim.

Now, in its third generation, the club has truly become what it has set out to be: a club for all writers and writer-wanna-bes! Our next issue is coming soon!
